When it comes to just the right place to spend their leisure time during weekends, Chennaiites had few choices a couple of years back. The face of Chennai has changed in the recent times with many shopping malls, multiplexes, pubs, clubs, restaurants and coffee shops sprouting up. Alsa Mall, Cison’s Complex, Fountain Plaza, Raahat Plaza, Wellington Plaza, Ispahani Center are a significant few waiting to be checked out for those new to Chennai!
To me, the shopping malls in Chennai are perfect for a perfect chill out and also to satisfy my shopping spree - Spencer Plaza at Anna Salai has always been my choice when it comes to this binge.

At Spencer, shopping is made a pleasure with comforts like central air-conditioning, smooth-moving escalators to the first and second floors, glass capsule lifts to all the seven floors, well-lit atriums and info-desks to guide you. The Van Heusen, Proline, Arrow, Allen Solly showrooms are waiting to be checked out for those who live in style. The list doesn’t stop with that! There is Food World, Music World for the music buffs, Health & Glow for women, Vummidiars, besides a lot of other retailers dealing with electronic goods, jewelry, domestic appliances, leather goods and handicrafts.

And when you are tired with your shopping and your bags are full, check out on the Subway and Marrybrown for a delicious evening bite. Take a whiff of the inviting aroma out of these places and you just can’t resist the urge to enter and fill yourself with the goodies. Those who are new to Chennai or people who wish to pay a visit, trust me this is one of the must-see places!
Next up is the Chennai City Center - the synonym of entertainment and fun! So much so because this place despite being a famous shopping mall has also numerous activities and events especially going on during weekends. A shopping mall of international standards, City Center with its French architecture-inspired façade, tall arches and pilasters leaves the visitors spell-bound. Lifetsyle, Landmark, Giordano, Wills Lifestyle, Helvetica, KFC, Subway among other small shops filled with people picking their stuffs triggers the passion for shopping once again. Rewind at INOX multiplex with your friends to catch up for the latest movie.

The basement has the food court and coffee shops fully packed with people watching the activities going on. The entire place is filled with the air of fun and excitement - a shopping mall with a difference I must say. Kids taking part in the activities and games are fun to watch with the Disney characters entertaining the crowd. This is an exciting video of one such exciting moment - watch and enjoy!
