My grandma is a culinary expert and I cannot help drooling as I get the delicious aroma from the kitchen when she cooks. Kola Urundai is one of my favorites. Here’s how you do it in a very simple way.

Ingredients

Mutton                                    ½ kg (minced meat)
Onion                                      2-3 large (finely chopped)
Green chillies                          5 - 7 (finely chopped)
Turmeric powder                    ¼ tsp
Split gram (daria dhal)          150 gms
Poppy seeds (Khas Khas)      2 tsps
Saunf                                     1 tsp
Ginger garlic paste               3 - 4 tsps
Curry leaves                          8 small leaves
Coriander leaves                   finely chopped
Oil                                          to fry
Salt                                        to taste

Method

Put the minced meat in a mixer and grind it and keep it aside. Grind the daria dhal to a fine paste. Now add the saunf and poppy seeds and grind it once again. Put the contents into a vessel and add the onion, ginger/garlic paste, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, salt, turmeric powder, and the meat and mash it thoroughly. Now roll it into small balls. Heat oil in a pan and fry the balls till they become golden brown. Maintain low flame while frying.

Serve hot with sauce or chutney for an evening snack or you can add these balls in kurma and serve it with hot rice.
